On Wednesday, May 16, Google announced that they are changing the way they rank sites for searches. In an effort to produce results that are more valuable to a user, Google has announced “The Knowledge graph”. The new algorithm will focus on “things, not strings”.

Search is a lot about discovery—the basic human need to learn and broaden your horizons. But searching still requires a lot of hard work by you, the user. So today I’m really excited to launch the Knowledge Graph, which will help you discover new information quickly and easily.

For the past five or six years, there has been a large focus on blogging for SEO purposes. Business owners and individuals have spent a lot of time and money adding blogs to their site in an effort to increase their organic search rankings. It will be interesting to see how the Knowledge Graph impacts this SEO strategy. Legendary Media is going to operate business as usual, while paying close attention to search rankings and trends in the coming months.

Last week we pushed a new website live for an NJ dry wall company. I received a phone call yesterday from the owner, Tom, who was thrilled to let me know his investment had already starting paying off when a new customer found him on the web a day after the site went live.

The greatest part about this news is that we have not even started Tom’s google adwords campaign yet. This customer found Tom through an organic google search.

At Legendary Media, we don’t cut corners when it comes to search engine optimization. We properly title your pages, images, hyperlinks, take care of your sitemap and google places submission. All of this adds up. Does it take a little extra time? Yes, but the payoff is worth it and Tom is already reaping the benefits.

Google wants to find your website. The more avenues you give the search engine to do that, the higher you will be ranked. If you have any questions regarding your sites SEO, get in touch with us today!

At Legendary Media, we take care of all domain and hosting registrations for our customers. Many times, however, our clients have already registered a domain on their own. When you register a domain, you have the option to register it publicly or privately. If you do not register your domain privately, anyone can do a whois search on your domain and obtain your physical mailing address and email address. Scammers use this information to their benefit by trying to take advantage of people who have registered domains, but don’t have expertise in the field.

One of our clients recently received an email that looks like this:

(If you are not in charge of this, please transfer this email to your President or the appropriate person, thanks.)

Dear President & CEO,

This email is sent by CN Network Information Center LTD. which is a registration organization in China. Here we have something to confirm with you. We received a formal application 17th March, 2012. One company called “Anber Imports, Ltd” was applying to register “domain in question” as Network Brand and the following domain names:

yourdomain.asia
yourdomain.cn
yourdomain.com.cn
yourdomain.com.tw
yourdomain.hk
yourdomain.net.cn
yourdomain.org.cn
yourdomain.tw

After our initial checking, we found the names were similar to your company’s, so we need to check with you whether your company had authorized that company to register these domain names. If you authorized this, we will finish the registration at once. If you did not authorize, please inform us within 10 workdays, so that we will handle this issue better. Out of the time limited we will unconditionally finish the registration for “Anber Imports, Ltd”

Best Regards,

This is a huge red flag. You should not be receiving messages regarding your domain by anyone except the company you registered your domain with.

Legendary Media was a concept I came up with when I was a young coder in college, trying to make a few extra bucks on the side while finishing up my degree. Today it has grown into a complete web business with all types of offerings.

Working with Jon Yvon has really taken this thing to the next level. We are always working, and in this economy that is a really good thing. We’ve been so busy helping people with their websites over the past four years, that ours had become tremendously obsolete. It has been a peeve of mine for awhile because while I still like what I created way back in 2005, it is not a good representation of what we are capable of doing as a company today.

A screenshot of the old website homepage.

I have been working on this site for awhile and today it goes live. Is it perfect? No. It will grow like everything else on the internet. I have been hesitant to put this out there because it’s not perfect, but when you take that approach it could be weeks, months, and even years before your vision goes live. These days I like to take the Mark Zuckerberg approach to launching my own projects: If it’s somewhat ready to go, get it out there, let people use it, and we will make enhancements along the way.

“The Hacker Way is an approach to building that involves continuous improvement and iteration,” Zuckerberg writes. “Hackers believe that something can always be better, and that nothing is ever complete. They just have to go fix it — often in the face of people who say it’s impossible or are content with the status quo.”

That is what I am doing here, and it will work. Like everything else on the internet, it will evolve and grow.

I hope you like the new site.

-LV
